The Dynamic Field Simulation Program (
DynaField) is a model used to develop
production forecasts by time stepping through the life of a field. The system consists
of any number of reservoirs, any number of wells and a surface network that collects and
commingles production. The field description changes over time as wells are drilled, new
reservoirs are penetrated, well productivity is optimized by workovers and reservoirs are
depleted.
DynaField is a
FULLY INTEGRATED set of modules, each responsible for
a specific task.
The field performance group of predictive modules (ProOpt, NetSim
and WEM) determines
the production rate for the field at a specified point in time.
-
NetSim determines pressure and thermal performance of the surface network.
-
WEM determines individual well deliverability in response to the surface back
pressure determined by NetSim.
- Flow from each well is controlled by ProOpt to achieve a desired field performance
where production is optimized for maximum net revenue subject to well and facility constraints.
The reservoir performance predictive module (MatBal) updates reservoir conditions
to account for cumulative production.
DynaField manages the flow of information between the various modules
and integrates the field performance over a specified time step.
-
The field performance programs evaluate the field's production rate at the end of the
time step based on projected reservoir conditions.
-
Cumulative production over the time step is computed by DynaField using the production
rates determined by WEM. Since the field consists of many reservoirs,
WEM assigns the reservoir source for each well's production. In the
case of a commingled, multi-layered reservoir model, WEM automatically
allocates each well's production to specific reservoirs.
-
Based on the predicted cumulative, MatBal updates the projected reservoir conditions.
Data representing the physical description of the entire field is consolidated in a
single
DynaField project file that is used by all modules. The file contains a
detailed description of the entire surface network, the characteristics of every
reservoir produced throughout the life of the field, a description of the initial
state and drilling schedule of each well in the field, and a history of configuration
changes for each well. Forecast results, historical performance data and measured
test data are stored in a Production Database (
ProdDB) that can be accessed by any
module for comparative display and regression analysis.
