The company was formed in 1982 by Dr. Phillip E. Moseley with the sole objective of
developing engineering software for the oil and gas industry. Phillip received his
PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University specializing in numerical analysis
and optimization theory. Early in his career, Phillip worked with NASA in the area of
guidance and control for the Apollo space program. In 1972 he shifted to the petroleum
industry joining Exxon Production Research where he was a key player in the development
and support of Exxon's process simulator. As a result, he acquired considerable
experience in facility modeling, multi-component phase behavior and thermodynamic
properties derived from equations of state. Next, he developed the first release of
Exxon's multi-phase pipeline network simulator. In this model, facility components,
wellbores, and networked multi-phase flow systems were integrated into a single program.
After Exxon, Phillip moved to Intercomp where he managed the pipeline network simulation
group for both steady state and transient fluid flow systems.
Phillip had an intense desire to form his own company and in 1982 took the plunge that led
to the formation of P. E. Moseley and Associates, Inc. Initial product developments initiated
extensive research in the area of completion technology and reservoir simulation. This
research coupled with the wide variety of experience enabled him to look at oil and gas
software from a very unique and creative perspective resulting in numerous innovations.
The first product, the Well Evaluation Model (WEM), was introduced to the market not long
after the formation of the company. WEM was the first commercial well performance model
available and continues to provide well performance simulation without peer. Since then a
fully integrated program, DynaField, has evolved that models single well, field and
reservoir performance.
The success of WEM seeded company growth resulting in the assembly of a team of
exceptionally talented advanced degree computer science and engineering specialists
that develop and support our PREMIUM suite of well and field performance programs.
We take pride in the knowledge that virtually 100% of the code has been created
in-house placing us in an excellent position to provide the highest possible quality
in customer support. The 20 plus years of actual field utilization by an extensive,
diverse client base provides a strong validation of our products technical integrity,
user friendliness and incomparable support. We look forward to the next 20 years of
setting the standard for well and field performance simulation.
